EPA Wants Comments on Reregistration of Pyrethoids Pyrethoid, an insecticide commonly used to control rootworm, is going through the reregistration process with EPA. Idaho Asks Ninth Circuit to Overturn Ruling in Ban on Farm Spying Law In 2014, the federal court in Idaho ruled that the state’s ban on farm spying or ag gag law was unconstitutional. Late last week, the appeal was heard by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals with the state arguing to overturn the ruling. To learn more about the appeal, click here http://bit.ly/2qowoAG. “Blue Card” Legislation Proposes New Path To Citizenship For Undocumented Farmworkers In the interest of protecting both the immigrants and the agricultural workforce, Senators Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), Patrick Leahy (D-VT), Michael Bennet (D-CO), Mazie Hirono (D-HI), and Kamala Harris (D-CA) introduced last week the Agricultural Worker Program Act, legislation that may soon be known as the Blue Card Act. The idea is simple: any farmworker who has worked in the agricultural industry for at least 100 days of each of the past two years would be eligible for a “Blue Card.” To read the full article click here: https://go.umd.edu/cp5.


Farmers Divided on Need for Fair Practices Rule Some livestock producers are backing federal rules that would make it easier for them to challenge the fairness of meat processors’ practices, but other producers worry the rules will keep them from getting top dollar for the animals they raise.
