WORKSHOPS ON ALTERNATIVE IRRIGATION SOURCE AIMED AT FARMERS AND LOCAL OFFICIALS COVERING WATER QUALI

College Park, MD. – The Charles County Extension Office and CONSERVE: A Center of Excellence at the Nexus of Sustainable Water Reuse, Food, & Health will host a half-day workshop for farmers and local officials interested in learning more about using recycled water as an alternative irrigation water source for agriculture.

The Water Reuse for Agriculture: What Growers Need to Know Workshop will be held on December 4, 2019, at the Charles County Extension Office in Bel Alton. The workshop will run from 8 am to 1 pm. Sessions will cover issues associated with water quality research, new water filtration and treatment technologies, and updates on reclaimed water regulations for Maryland agriculture. Workshops are free to attend and lunch is provided. Registration is required to attend to guarantee lunch.

Attendance at this program will also earn 3 Ag Nutrient Management CEUs.

“Recycled water presents an additional irrigation water source for farmers that is highly-regulated, safe, and reliable in face of increasingly unpredictable weather. These workshops will provide farmers, wastewater treatment plant operators, county officials, and any other interested parties with the most up-to-date research on how water reuse fits into current farming practices and regulations,” according to Rachel Goldstein, an assistant research professor at the University of Maryland.
