We recognize that many agriculture employers may have questions on what to do during a potential encounter with federal immigration officials at your businesses. To prepare for an encounter with federal officials, employers can utilize the guide “What to do if Immigration Comes to Your Workplace”, a resource developed by the National Immigration Law Center (NILC). The guide identifies employers’ rights and responsibilities when handling common immigration actions and explains how employers can protect their rights and the rights of their employees before, during, and after an interaction with federal immigration officials. On the NILC website, the guide is available in English, Chinese, Korean, Spanish, and Thai. The guide provides general information and is not legal advice. For legal advice, employers can speak with an immigration lawyer. Employers should find the contact information for non-profit organizations that provide free or low-cost immigration legal services in their area by visiting the Immigration Advocates Network’s National Immigration Legal Services Directory.

Organizations such as CASA de Maryland and the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law Chacón Center for Immigrant Justice provide online resources for employees. The USAHello website provides updates on immigration policy changes.
