The University of Maryland recently partnered with the Maryland Department of Agriculture, Farm Service Agency, and the Risk Management Agency to host dairy risk management workshops around Maryland. The workshops featured a presentation covering the state of Maryland’s cost-share program to cover the cost of the premium for Dairy Margin Coverage (DMC), how DMC operates to protect dairy producers, and a new crop insurance option, Dairy Revenue Protection (DRP), could be utilized in a dairy’s risk management program. On April 11, 2016, new regulations related to invasive plants went into effect in Maryland. The new regulations define what is considered a Tier 1 and Tier 2 invasive plant and when to grow invasive plant species in Maryland. The regulations also provide guidance on listing new plant species as either Tier 1 or Tier 2 and the procedure for delisting an invasive plant species from Tier 1 or Tier 2. Read More

We’ve decided not to do a short overview of the recently announced Phosphorus Management Tool (PMT) regulations from the Maryland Department of Agriculture (MDA). The feeling is another overview of the regulations would be redundant and fall on an audience who has heard enough about PMT. You’ve all heard how the regulations will potentially impact nutrient management plans for your farm.
